Made from cast iron,
fire backs have been used since medieval
times to protect the back of the chimney breast and to radiate heat into
the room. Genuine early fire backs are extremely rare. Most
fire backs on the market are copies of the originals. We usually
have 10 or more in stock at any time and can also provide a range of
